Though CCIEs are members of an exclusive group, they can be found in countries on every continent. Here are the latest statistics as of November 14, 2007:

Total Worldwide CCIEs: 15,658

Breakdown by Track:

  • Routing and Switching CCIEs: 14,329
  • Security CCIEs: 1,207
  • Service Provider CCIEs: 650
  • Storage Networking CCIEs: 99
  • Voice CCIEs: 601

Multiple Certifications

Many CCIEs have gone on to pass the certification exams in additional tracks, becoming a “multiple CCIE.” Below are selected statistics on CCIEs who are certified in more than one track.

Total with multiple certifications worldwide: 1,344

Combinations:

  • Routing and Switching + Security CCIEs: 517
  • Routing and Switching + Service Provider CCIEs: 300
  • Routing and Switching + Storage Networking CCIEs: 23
  • Routing and Switching + Voice CCIEs: 182
  • Total with 3 or more certifications: 210

These numbers demonstrate both the exclusivity of the CCIE certification and the growing trend toward multiple specializations within the networking field.
