The Importance of Automation in Communications

In today’s digital era, the internet has quietly fragmented into thousands of smaller, niche communities. In the first rise of social media, platforms like Twitter and Facebook reigned supreme. They offered singular, dominant venues for broadcasting our thoughts. But now, there are many networks—from specialized forums to closed community apps—each demanding attention if we want to get our message across effectively.

The Challenge of Multiple Networks

Syndicating content across so many far-flung communities can be exhausting. To stay active in each network’s algorithm, we must do more than just push out posts; we have to engage, track likes, respond to comments, and monitor overall reach—often in parallel, across multiple platforms.

For the past decade, many people have paid for SaaS tools or hired social media managers to perform these tasks full-time. Managing the logistical puzzle of scheduling, responding, and reporting is too complex to do manually at scale.

Automation with AI

Yet the tools have arrived to truly streamline this process. Instead of merely auto-generating generic content—as some do with AI—we can harness AI to transform authentic, real-world interactions into shareable, meaningful posts. Imagine recording your meetings, emails, and live events, and then using AI to:

  1. Transcribe and summarize your material.
  2. Filter and organize the information into different themes.
  3. Generate tailored posts to share on each relevant platform.
  4. Automatically analyze likes, comments, and follow-up engagement.

Rather than “faking it” with empty AI posts, we can expand the reach of genuine conversations we’re already having. AI becomes less about shortcuts and more about amplifying our real voice.

Remembering the Time I Walked Away

I once wrote about setting my phone down in 2014 and walking away from social media to reclaim my life. While that break was invaluable, the world today demands we maintain an online presence in multiple communities—especially if we have messages to share or businesses to grow. The balance, then, is to stay genuinely present while leaning on AI for the heavy lifting: the scheduling, the engagement tracking, the countless reposts. We get to remain human in the interactions while the machine handles the repetitive tasks.

The Road Forward

Automation in communications is not about “cheaping out.” It’s about combining human authenticity with AI’s superpowers of speed, data processing, and distribution. With the right strategy, small organic conversations—emails, private chats, team discussions—can blossom into content that genuinely resonates across the distributed web, without draining our creativity or time.

Leverage AI to expand what is real, rather than to generate empty noise. That, in essence, is the importance of automation in communications today.
