# Colin McNamara > Colin McNamara, Field CTO at AHEAD. Rewriting the business operating system with AI: agentic AI in the software development lifecycle, AI governance, and defensible AI for regulated industries. Every post is available as plain markdown: add `.md` to its URL, or request the post with `Accept: text/markdown`. Posts from the last two years are listed first, with their full text in one file at https://colinmcnamara.com/llms-full.txt; older posts are under Optional. ## Posts - [My Blog Spoke A2A. Now It Speaks Markdown Too](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/my-blog-spoke-a2a-now-it-speaks-markdown.md): This site already talked to agents through A2A and JSON-LD. But an agent that simply fetches a post still downloaded 158 KB of HTML to read 17 KB of writing. So I added Cloudflare's convention, markdown on request, made it run on Vercel and Cloudflare from one set of rules, and found three traps on the way that no local test caught. - [One Control Point](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/one-control-point.md): At my day job, I was asked to be more efficient with AI spend. The honest answer was a semantic router in front of every model, so I pointed my own coding agent at one. It broke. Five bugs later, the fixes are upstream, which means everybody gets them. - [When to Trust a Decision Model](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/when-to-trust-a-decision-model.md): A confidence number is only worth what it lets you trust. I put nine decision models, open and hosted, through one test: keep only the answers each was 90% sure of, and score them, first on 111 hard AI-written questions and then on 1,599 questions labelled by 100 people each. Some earned the trust. Here is which, and under what conditions. - [A Model That Refuses to Talk](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/jev-system-one-decision-models.md): We keep asking chat models for decisions, then parsing the prose back into something code can branch on. TypeSafe's Jev skips the prose. I spent a few days reading the public material, then got access and measured it myself. Fast and accurate held up. On my two prompts, calibration error came out near 0.09, and a plain open model on my own GPU was calibrated at least as well. - [The Same Brain, Another Pass](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/looped-transformers-same-brain-another-pass.md): A normal model is twelve editors who each read your draft once. A looped model is one editor who reads it twelve times. I spent this week working out what that buys you, what it costs, and where it stops working. - [The Router Was Right](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/the-router-was-right.md): I wanted one place to decide which model answers and how hard it thinks. That surfaced a bug one event from the end of every stream. I fixed the wrong thing first, the schema proved the router right, and the real fix is now upstream in vLLM. - [It Was Never the Model](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/it-was-never-the-model.md): A laptop, a single GH200, and a semantic router between them, built to answer trivial requests locally and send the hard ones to the big card. Along the way, eleven things in that stack told me a confident falsehood. Not one of them was the model, and three of them were my own measurements. - [The Engine Is the Other Half of the Model](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/engine-other-half-of-the-model.md): I spent a night carefully A/B testing a model on a GH200. Then I upgraded the inference engine for an unrelated reason, re-ran the identical config, and got 43 percent more decode throughput and nearly four times the context budget. When open-weight architectures change this fast, the engine is the other half of the model, and it fails quietly. - [Your AI Knows When It's Being Tested](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/claude-global-workspace-agentic-oversight.md): Anthropic found a mental workspace inside Claude that shows what a model is thinking but not saying. It caught the model noticing it was under evaluation, and behaving better because of it. Here is why interpretability is now the missing instrument for agentic oversight. - [Safety Should Be a Constraint, Not a Checklist](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/safety-as-a-constraint-function.md): What two decades of engineering failure analysis taught me about protecting people. Why every decision system needs a safety layer that can't be optimized around. - [Game Theory Doesn't Work in Litigation (Until You Fix It)](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/game-theory-doesnt-work-in-litigation.md): Classical game theory assumes rational actors. Litigation has none. I built a framework that bridges the gap — and it changes how you predict what people will actually do. - [The 2028 Global Intelligence Crisis — And the Half They Didn't Write](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/global-intelligence-crisis-missing-half.md): CitriniResearch wrote a sharp scenario about AI breaking the economy. But they only modeled labor substitution, not capability creation. Here's what's missing. - [Karpathy's 80/20 Coding Flip Is Real — But Who's Watching the Agents?](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/karpathy-coding-shift-observability-gap.md): Andrej Karpathy's shift from 80% manual coding to 80% agent coding mirrors what many of us are experiencing. But as AI agents write most of our code, the observability and security gaps are becoming the real story. - [Encoding My Anxiety: Building AI Agents to Run a CPG Supply Chain](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/encoding-my-anxiety-ai-cpg-supply-chain.md): A co-founder's 3-year journey from 4:30am panic attacks to 20% utilization - automating a $9M run rate CPG business with Claude Code, LangGraph, and AI. - [The Ghost in the Commit: Governing AI Agents That Build Our Infrastructure](https://colinmcnamara.com/blog/ghost-in-the-commit-governing-ai-agents-building-infrastructure.md): AI coding agents reason more explicitly than human developers—then throw away all that reasoning after every session.
